Rest that isn't sleep — “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30, BSB)

Christ offers rest to people already carrying something. Question: what are you carrying that you've never handed over?

Two are better than one — “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor. For if one falls down, his companion can lift him up; but pity the one who falls without another to help him up! Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; but how can one keep warm alone? And though one may be overpowered, two can resist. Moreover, a cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, BSB)

The passage isn't romantic. It's practical: one falls, the other lifts. Question: where has your spouse lifted you this year without being asked?

Preferring the other — “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or empty pride, but in humility consider others more important than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.” (Philippians 2:3-4, BSB)

Looking to another's interests is decided before the day starts. Question: what would it cost you to go first this week?

Clothed with patience — “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with hearts of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with one another and forgive any complaint you may have against someone else. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which is the bond of perfect unity.” (Colossians 3:12-14, BSB)

Patience is listed as clothing: put on daily, deliberately. Question: what do you already wear well?

Building and sleeping — “Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain; unless the LORD protects the city, its watchmen stand guard in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for bread to eat—for He gives sleep to His beloved.” (Psalm 127:1-2, BSB)
